A few miles from the city of York and situated near to mineral-rich springs, the Yorkshire settlement of Harrogate grew in prominence as a spa town during the 17th century.
These days the town is better known for its impressive architecture, much of which derives from that period, and horticultural splendour - Harrogate has recently been awarded for the quality of its public gardens and floral displays.
The town has a range of entertainment and leisure venues to choose from and, as such, boasts a vibrant nightlife including several top class restaurants which reflect its affluent and well-heeled atmosphere - Harrogate was recently voted one of the best places to live in the UK.
Aside from leisure, the town has also become a popular conference location rivaling Birmingham or London in its facilities, hosting large political and union events on a regular basis.
